Smurfit Kappa is one of the leading providers of paper-based packaging solutions in the world, with around 45,000 employees in approximately 370 production sites across 34 countries and with revenue of €8.1 billion in 2015.
Due to the successful operation of our BIDOX® installations at various Smurfit Kappa production sites we are about to deliver and commission a fourth installation at a location in the Czech Republic.
BIDOX® (BIological Desulphurization by OXidation) is one of the most efficient systems for the biological removal of sulfides from biogas. No chemicals are needed to operate the BIDOX® system. The installation requires limited maintenance, is equipped with little process control and manages to reduce the amount of H₂S in biogas to levels below 50 ppm (in this case the requirement is below 200 ppm). These features have a significant positive impact on the life duration and running costs of the CHP engine and efficiently facilitate the upgrade of biogas to natural gas quality. Biogas desulphurization using the BIDOX® is not associated with odour emission, because the system is completely closed. In addition there is no need for internal cleaning or biomass discharge.
The start-up is planned for March 2017.
